Choosing Email Marketing Software

email-marketingEmail marketing is an important component of any business. It allows you to engage with your readers/customers and foster a good relationship with them to ensure they’ll stick around! As your subscriber base grows, it is time to ditch the Excel spreadsheets and find the right email marketing software for you. A good email marketing service will save you time, make your email more professional and enable you to measure the effectiveness of your campaigns.

Don’t just settle for the first results that pop up in Google, take some time to evaluate the options and variety of features available to make sure the software will work best for your needs.

We would also strongly recommend creating a list of features you would like to have before you start testing and evaluating.

There were three main features that influenced our final decision on which email marketing software to use for Marketing.com.au. We wanted:

  1. Simple, clean and creative templates that also render nicely on mobile devices. Never underestimate the power of good design.
  2. A user friendly interface that any of our staff could use to manage lists.
  3. Ability to analyse results of campaigns easily over time.

After we reviewed several email marketing software options, we managed to narrow the choices down to three finalists. We have shared these with you below. This is by no means a definitive list, we just thought we’d start you off with a few alternatives to consider. We have no hesitation in recommending any of them.

At Marketing.com.au, we felt that Campaign Monitor had the best mix of design, user interface and analysis options to meet our needs. You also have the option to pay monthly or by campaign. Prices start from $9 per month for up to 500 subscribers. Or $5 per campaign + $0.01 per recipient. We love the quirky branding of this product, it’s very memorable. One of the big pluses with MailChimp is that it has a very attractive free offering which enables you to really trial the software. If you have less than 2,000 subscribers, you can send up to 12,000 emails per month for free. There are then monthly plans starting from $10. We also really like the easy to use interface, great design templates and the strong social focus.

One of our favourite websites Copyblogger.com uses AWeber. If you have subscribed to their mailing list, you’ll already have a feel for the style of email marketing that you can send. At first impressions, AWeber may not appear to have the same polish as MailChimp and Campaign Monitor, however, what it may lack in visuals AWeber makes up for in features. We have also found their support exceptional. Packages start from $19 per month.
