We like to remain objective at Marketing.com.au, however, we also like to be honest and we can’t wait to get our hands on the new iPhone 5. If you haven’t had a chance yet to find out more about it (it’s been a busy week!), we thought we’d highlight a few of the main pros and cons for you:
Pros: 4G, faster, longer battery life and it’s thinner
Cons: new connector means it’s not compatible with older accessories and it’s a little on the pricey side
Here’s a bit more of a run down on the features you can expect:
- 18% thinner – 7.6mm vs. 9.3mm for iPhone 4S
- 20% lighter – 112grams vs. 140grams for iPhone 4S
- 4-inch Retina display – more pixels and a taller screen
- Faster wireless and 4G Internet
- Better performance and battery life
- iOS 6 operating system – 200+ new features including a new maps app with navigation
- FaceTime over the cellar network
- 8 megapixel camera – with new panorama feature
- New connector – also reversible so it fits either way
- New earphones – better fit, more durable and better sound quality
- Range of colours – in white, silver, black or slate colours
With faster internet and a higher resolution screen, expect to see a lot more richer content being developed for mobile consumption. The launch of the iPhone 5 is a timely reminder that if mobile marketing is not part of your marketing plans, you need to get a move on quick smart! The expectations are even greater now for brands and websites to get with the program.
According to a study by Google in partnership with Ipsos MediaCT called Our Mobile Planet: Australia, “Smartphone penetration has risen to 52% of the population and these smartphone owners are becoming increasingly reliant on their devices. 58% access the Internet every day on their smartphone and most never leave home without it. Implication: Businesses that make mobile a central part of their strategy will benefit from the opportunity to engage the new constantly connected consumer.”
